Community Care Campaign - Contributions Requested

20 years ago we started out ‘just’ doing yoga, but now we do so much more for our community.

We practice and encourage union, unity and connection, on and off the mat, right here at home.

Did you know that Sol is an integrated s-corp & non-profit? We offer a full menu of fee-for-service & donation based services simultaneously. When our s-corp has profits, it goes right back into the non-profit. It’s a positive feedback system; you get out of it what you put into it. We are not so much about hand-outs or ‘toxic’ charity, rather, inviting engagement in the slow process of building sustainable health and wealth - individually and as a community. We are an enterprise of passion and community of generosity offering support in down-to-earth, interactive ways right here in our local and hyper-local community,

Here’s how:

First, no one is turned away. We have always been committed to ensuring there is no barrier to entry. Our community, yoga practice and education are available to anyone, everyday. To that end, these are some of the ways we are accessible.

  • Open 365 with free events every single day in studio

  • Free weekly classes for the general public Frederick community (over 2,000 since 2005)

  • Scholarships (over $400,000 worth) for everything we do

  • We barter time and skills too (over 1,000 volunteers have been trained!)

Second, we are actively combating the devastating global impacts of isolation - the epidemic of our time - that harms both individual and societal health and well-being.   Read More

Isolation slowly causes death - and is a profound component of all types of physical, mental and emotional suffering.  Sustainable recovery from the impacts of isolation is a subtle process that takes immense time and patience. In direct response to Covid-19 & the disconnection of the digital age, Sol Community is weaving people back together on a daily basis.

  • Individually – self care, mind-body-soul healing from all sorts of suffering/illness. We’ve served over 200,000 people since 2005.

  • Inter-personally – healing is scientifically proven to happen in relationship, when we gather as 2 or 20, we can be seen and see each other. We have offered over 36,500 healing gatherings since 2005 and trained over 400 teachers.

  • Healing Communities – communities need safe spaces for the work required to be in healthy relationship.  We offer an open place of refuge 365/yr, over 7,000 days since 2005.

Coming Home

One subset of people we tend to serve are those going through big life transitions or emerging from crisis in their lives. When healing from trauma, relocation, loss, divorce, grief, injury, mental & physical disease, cancer, homelessness, addiction recovery, loss of sense of self, etc… people often find ‘home’ at Sol while they re-orient. We provide both acute and long term support, education, resources, connection and care during the experience of groundlessness and disorientation. This is deep work that takes time, tenderness and ongoing communal support. A few of the ways we have extended our hand to those that are in a process of rising, healing or recovering:

  • Free or discounted memberships for people in transition or emerging from crisis.

  • Our 6-10 month yoga teacher training programs carry people through difficult life transitions - offering self=study, healing, mentorship plus community connections. Over $350,000 in scholarships have been distributed for these programs.

  • We offer family style affordable co-housing for people in transition or in a healing process.

  • Residence/room rental is all inclusive and includes direct access to unlimited healing services & community. You can share a room for $775/month or have your own for $1000/mo. (cost to us is $1041/mo per bed)

  • Since 2022, we have housed 39 residents in 3 properties. 71% of residents have progressed in their wellness goals.

  • Residents have discounted access to transformational process-oriented yoga teacher training as part of their housing.

For those in more acute crisis, or chronically under-resourced, we also offer respite. Our physical proximity to an epicenter of homelessness, social services for mentally ill and substance abuse invites us be a good neighbors with boots on the ground, right here, right now.

  • Open Sunday night community meal for 15-25 people $150/week, $7800/year, $23,400 total

  • 7 bed community vegetable and herb garden & community backyard

  • Provide free, specialized programing for over 1500 men & women in all

forms of addiction recovery processes: Cost $23,920 since 2022

  • Provide mindfulness, yoga & wellness education to approx 7200 men &

women at inpatient rehabilitation centers (primarily SUD) since 2023

  • Diversionary respite services care and peer support for anonymous unhoused in the hyper-local area (unknown cost)

So, yoga on the mat plus safe spaces for all, a place to call home for some, meaningful conversation, warm hugs, care, a meal, compassion & community.  On the ground, in real time, recovering our sense of connection and restoring humanity to wholeness.   Naturally, we offer equitable, diverse and inclusive community. There are no barriers to entry for anyone with a desire to reduce suffering and move toward a better way of living.

To be able to continue to offer this kind of care and support, we are aiming to fundraise $200,000 together in 2025.
